How to confirm the dimming type of your LED fixture?

In many lighting projects, the installer will usually confused in selecting the right dimmer to be compatible with different LED fixtures. So it is important to confirm your dimming type of LED fixture before installing the Triac Dimmer for them.

  1.  Check the manufacturer’s specifications: Most LED fixtures will specify the type of dimming they are compatible with in their technical specifications. This will usually be stated as either “leading edge” or “trailing edge”. Or Ask the supplier: If the specifications do not specify the type of dimming, you can ask the supplier for clarification.
  2. Conduct a test: You can also conduct a simple test to determine the type of dimming. To do this, you will need to connect the LED fixture to a dimmer switch and observe how the light level changes as you adjust the dimmer switch. If the light level decreases as soon as you start to turn down the switch, it is a leading edge dimmer. If the light level decreases after you have fully turned down the switch, it is a trailing edge dimmer.
  3. Consult a professional electrician: If you are unsure, it is always best to consult a professional electrician who can confirm the type of dimming and advise you on the best way to proceed.
